Artist to the king and the king of artists

Stockholm Adventurer's Guild
You were looking into Rubens's work before, right? Apparently one of his paintings clearly deviated from the subject he was commissioned to do. Rubens is known to be rather reasonable, but i guess he is an artist after all. The piece is apparently brilliant, by the way. Could you perhaps go askhim about it personally?

1. Painting imbued with feeling
You must be talking about the painting ordered by the association in Antwerp. First they said they wanted a painting done of their holy guardian, but then they said they wanted a painting around the theme of "The descent from the cross". I put a lot of feeling into that painting. I hope the people of Antwerp can see that when they look at the painting.
2. Painting filled with warmth
Rubens's painting of the descent from the cross, right? It was something completely different from all religious painting before it. When you look at it you feel like you are there when Jesus Christ's body is being taken down from the cross, and the pale expression on the Virgen Mary's face looks exactly as a mother's should. It's a very heart-warming painting.
3. A divine yet humanitarian painting
Whether it be Vermeer or Rubens, tey both utilize lighting very effectively in their paintings, Christ's pale, floating body truly exhibits the image of God himself and the Virgin Mary's expression is so human and real... It reminded me of how sad it is when people die, especially in a time of war like now.
4. Painting of an "King"
Christ is summoned up to Heaven and so he is lifted down from the cross. It is such a sad scene, but it also gives off a feeling of comfort. I suppose what he wanted to paint, even if it took convincing his client to allow him to do so, was to paint something that would brung back the rights of the church and bring peace to all. He was known as the "Painter of the kings" as he was revered by many kings, but i believe he is also the "King of Painters".
5. Artist to the king and the king of artist
The painting done by Rubens around the theme of "The descent from the cross" was highly acclaimed and earned him the title of "Painter of the kings and the king of painters" The painting is now stored safely in the church in Antwerp. It sounds as though this painting is a must see for anyone who appreciates art.

Part of an altarpiece by Rubens. The scene of the Virgin Mary and her friends taking Jesus down from the cross after his crucifixion. The exaggerated flesh and poses and the dramatic use of light set this apart from all previous paintings.
