                            1. The sword in the lake
                            The lake where Excalibur lies sleeping? Well, many opinions exist, but popular thinking says that it is a lake in Glasonbury known as Inis Avalon. Although the legend remains that the sword was thrown back into it, nothing at all has been found at that lake up to this day.

                            2. The lake near the sea
                            The lake King Arthur's sword was thrown into? Well, the Avalon which Arthur journeyed to is also said to be a magical island in the sea far to the west. If, when he was close to dying, Arthur traveled to this island, he probably wouldn't have had the time to submerge the sword in a lake located far inland. Quite surprisingly, that lake may be near the sea...

                            3. Is the sword under the sea?
                            Many years ago, there were apparently many lakes here that merged with sea water. But now they've all either been drained and turned to swampland, or they fully connect with the sea. So Excalibur would not be on the bottom of a lake. Instead, it must be either buried in earth or on the bottom of the sea.

                            4. The lake of Excalibur
                            There are many fabled lakes in which Excalibur is said to be sleeping in, but the sword has not been found yet. There are also opinions that Avalon is an island on the other side of the sea, or the lake where Excalibur resides is near the ocean.
