Beauty to which Vishnu lends a hand
      No Expiration
      Calicut Adventurer's Guild
There apparently is a Buddhist effigy somehow related to Vishnu at the town at the fork of the Chao Phraya River. It is said to be so beautiful that Vishnu must have had a hand in its creation. The temple person wants to find out more about that statue. First investigate downriver at Lopburi.

              1. The world of Vishnu
You must be talking about the town of Phitsanulok. The name means "Vishnu's Heaven". Phitsanulok was a major city during the Sukhothai Period. A local young man said he recently came back frm there. Maybe he caould help you.

              2. Simplified rounded statue
A scholar frm Europe showed me around town. I saw so many Buddha statues. The ones there were a lot different from the ones we have here and are more rounded. The scholar was saying that they were too simplified and did not express the true nature of humans. I didn't really know what he was talking about though...

              3. Vishnu dressed in white
Oh, the story of how Vishnu helped to construct the statues of Buddha? As the story goes the people were having troubles constructing a Buddha statue when a person dressed all in white came to help them. Before they knew it the entire statue was completed. They say that person dressed in white was actually Vishnu. But why would a Hindu god help to build a Buddhist statue?

              4. Hindu gods are Buddhist creations?
Hmm, it is strange that a Hindu god would help to build a Buddhist statue i must admit. But, i suppose that just goes to show the true greatness of Vishnu as he is willing to cross all boundaries to help us. There's also a story that says after its construction bandits came into town to try and steal the statue but it was moved from Phitsanulak to some other location without anyone knowing.

              5. Hidden in the outskirts
Where is the Buddha statue tht Vishnu helped build now you ask? Well if people knew then thieves might try to stealit again now won't they? Tht's why it's kept a secret now. There are some rumours about where it could be floating around though. For example, some people say that the statue was protected by the Sukhothai king but after dealing with so much trouble from the bandits he decided to hide it out in the outskirt of town somewhere...

              6. The assumption is... Pegu?
Well, i don't exactly know where those outskirts are exactly. The Chao Phraya river basin is the centre of the kingdom, so eighter north, south or west. The north is mountainous so it could be a good place to hide something like that but that's not somewhere the royal family could go check very ofter. There isn't very much land in the south and there aren't many choics of roads to use down that way. So that leaves the west... Maybe Pegu?

              7. Beauty to which Vishnu leands a hand
The statue that Vishnu helped construct was apparently once in Phitsanulok just north of Lop Buri. However, it was since hidden in the outskirt of town somewhere to prevent it from being damaged by thieves. A merchant i spoke to suspects that it could be hidden in Pegu. I should go there and see what i can find.

A Buddhist statue created in the Sukho Thai era. The Buddhist statues of this era always featured a full, round-faced image, and a well-rounded body. Even male statues had small waists and were different from the true-to-nature type western images. Legend has it that the God Vishnu lent a hand in creating this one.
