  • Rise of the Netherlands
Momentum toward independence in the Netherlands grew at the turn of the century, and its merchant ships were becoming more active on the open seas. When they opened up the trade route to Southeast Asia in hopes of monopolizing the profit, the other nations, including England, weren't going to sit idly by.

Today marks the first time this Historical Event from 17th Century, phase 1 has been launched. (Congrats, World Clock influencers.) J-Wiki identifies this as a "Naval Battle" quest.

gvo.gamedb.info/wiki/?WorldClock/Quest/NavalBattle

Further data can be found at an old Naval Battle Historical Event previously seen on GAMA: Battle of Pavia

Basically, after you accept the event quest from a city official or palace NPC, you can encounter a fleet of NPCs around ... Plymouth? Sink them to protect allied NPC units, whether by epic battling or Amulet of the Sun spamming, then go report the finished quest. Easy as salmon pie.

I personally prefer the AoS strategy, but to each their own. Special rewards await; fleeting with others seems to make the rewards appear sooner.

Most likely outcome at the moment: Hesitation of the North Sea Nations (Worst Outcome)

For Portugal, the battle is west of Bordeaux... not sure about other countries

In front of Nantes also works

Yeah, my bad on mentioning Plymouth; didn't have time to take the quest when it first appeared. The quest details even specifically mention the enemy fleet being "West of Bordeaux", so the Bay of Biscay (where Nantes and Bordeaux are located, of course) must be where the target fleet appears for all players. It's -technically- south of Plymouth as the cutscene implied, I suppose.

No worries, Guilder. We always appreciate your information!

Thanks. I'll never be up there in league with you and many other more helpful/experienced UWO players, but I'm happy to help where I can, if I can. Based on feedback from others and the Bay of Biscay being the target zone, either Nantes or Bordeaux seem like good places to launch from to hunt the target fleets.

I personally like Bordeaux due to the port official being near the city official (who gives the quest), but to each their own. Remember also that fleeting with others seems to lower the number of runs needed to obtain the rewards, too. Cheers, and good hunting all.

Seems that the Vanquisher of History title is acquired at Stockholm Palace from the Lion of the North himself, Gustav II Adolf.

Most likely outcome of the moment: The Netherlands Progresses (increased Netherlands influence in the North Sea, tax reduction for Dutch in SEA ports, market recession (drop in market rates of spice trade goods) in SEA ports.

Here's some more details:

-Fleet spawned at 16027,2827 just west and slightly north of Bordeaux. If you go west from there and direct your ship just slightly to the north, you should run into it with no problem.

-There's two type of quests for this, taken at the city official; an easy quest, and a hard quest.

-The easy quest you go up against 2 to 3 Battle Carracks. This one is very easy. Even if you dont have any battle skills, they should go down within 2 or 3 shots.

-The hard quest is a big jump from the easy quest. This one your up against 10 Heavy Galleons, all equipped with flame shot. I recommend getting another player or two to assist you with this fight.

-In both quests there's 3 light carracks that fights with you, and at least one of them must remain standing at victory to get credit (you get bonus battle exp and fame if all 3 are intact), otherwise it wont count and your have to re-do the battle again. This can be challenging on the hard quest as the battle starts them being surrounded by 4 of the Heavy Galleons. And they will be automatically sink if get they get a crit hit or caught up in melee (it doesn't help that they will stupidly charge into them).

- The hard quest gives you a bit more extra money, battle exp and fame, but more importantly you get the ESF rewards sooner. Heres what you get each time you complete a battle:

1st time: 20 Master Craftsman's Carpentry Tools
5th time (4th if doing hard quests): 20 Master's Smithy Tools
10th time (6th if doing hard quests): 1 Master's Carronade (16)
20th time (12th if doing hard quests): 1 Baudelaire (Asian servers get 5 Emergency Shipbuilding Request, but that reward was swapped out for us on GAMA)
30th time (19th if doing hard quests): 1 Heavily Armoured Sterncastle
40th time (25th if doing hard quests): 1 Conqueror of the Ages Hat (You also get the Vanquisher of History title if you've haven't gotten it already)
50th time (32nd if doing hard quests): 1 Treasure Box of Courage

-Rewards are not cumulative, no further rewards after getting the treasure box

-Unconfirmed but supposedly, doing the hard quests has a greater effect of changing the world clock to your favor then the easy quests. I don't know if this is true though.

It also looks like only a set number of enemy fleets can be spawned at a given time. The more players there are doing the quest, the better your chance of having to wait your turn in line for the fleet to appear for you to sink them.
