  • Fall of the Mamluk Sultanate
With the blockade of the Red Sea by Portugal, the Venetian spice trade was almost destroyed. But with the advent of Turkish forces into the Red Sea, Portuguese control started to be challenged. Venice stood by waiting patiently, hoping to once again start up their spice trade.

One of three potential 16th Century, period 1 Historical Events, and I believe also the very first Historical Event to ever debut on GAMA, Fall of the Mamluk Sultanate returned for its second appearance on 7/27/2016.

This is a Maritime event, Naval Battle type; it's like Battle of Pavia (including rewards listed on that page) in that you accept a quest to eliminate fleets of enemy NPC ships at sea, while trying to protect NPC ally ships during the battle. Amulets of the Sun are acceptable to use for adventurer-types out there like me who aren't big on battleships.

The most likely outcome right now is "Retreat of West. Europe from Red Sea". Ottoman influence will increase in the Indian Ocean, Portugal's influence will decrease in the Red Sea, and Venice's influence will decrease in the East Mediterranean. That was the outcome last time we had this event, but it's my hope that time will take a different course, now. Cheers.

Wasn't this the event where somehow the whole west coast of India flipped from Portuguese to Ottoman?

I'm positive that it is. No Portuguese investors were pleased with that outcome, and I really can't say I blame them. We'll see, but I expect a different result this time around because it's no longer a strange new game mechanic to be figured out; I know I skipped it originally due to being unsure of how to play it without a big fancy battleship at my disposal.

This was indeed the very first historical event we got on GAMA. And the part about all of India and the Red Sea/Arabia flipping to the Ottoman Empire did happen, but that was more of an accidental goof by OGplanet, as they had just acquired UWO from Netmarble at the time, and they were still figuring out the mechanics of how UWO works. Im certain that wont happen again.

I thought maybe it was a consequence of the historical outcome, like how Spain's territorial cities could be invested in after the Battle of Pavia? Well, good to know that was just a goof by OGPlanet after all.

Anyway, the most likely outcome right now is :Fall of Portuguese Control of the Seas." Increased Ottoman influence in the Red Sea, increased taxes on all trade goods in Arabia for Portuguese players, but reduced taxes in the East Mediterranean for Venetians.

The current outcome is another reserve meaning if that applies.. we will most likely jump back to the 15th Century :x

This HE quest rewards still same as other HE Naval Battle quest (I think)

Current Outcome: Retreat of West. Europe from Red Sea,again

It's back once again. This can flip a bunch of ports to/from Ottoman control, so keep that in mind. Cheers.
