Each person in the fleet inside the wreck automatically gets their own share of cargo-type loot; estimated 20-35% of what the person whose wreck it is gets. Bring more people for more overall loot. Plus it's one of the funner things to do with others :D

You are going to have to do some sailing to find out what sea it is in. The best way i've found to get to no-land maps once you have the right sea is to fleet up, have your fleetmate follow you, sail in one direction continually popping off salvage until it says your fleetmate is closer, turn 90 degrees and repeat this process (always turning the same direction). You will spiral in until you are right on top of your wreck.

Lots of them have headache meds, and it seems somewhat random if you get them from a given wreck. Like, each wreck has a possible loot list, and it drops whatever based on random picks from that.

That sounds about right, and also a few of the disco ships in the med, around Candia. Oh, and ghost ships, of course. I've done about 150 wrecks across 2 characters (100+ with one, around 50 with the other) and got perhaps 4 or 5 admiral's astrolabs. There are still a couple of items I need for that MA though.

East India trade ships are useless for these items, and they're the most common wrecks that I've had.

im not sure, but be sure to use a ship with high crew, the crew you have the better chance of raising wrecks. with high crew ship r2 should be enough to raise 5 star.

Armour has nothing to do with it.

@Emma, get a friend or two to help. Does the sw have a secondary requirement like recognition or arch? If so, it's probably a discovery, and some of them are quite a bit harder to raise than your typical East India trader.

R16 Salvage here, 2,674 shipwrecks pulled.
During it all I noticed that the same shipwrecks have different variations. You can notice this when you are pulling it up. A shipwreck might go up by 20% each time. But if you let it go, and retry next it might only go up by 4% each time. The less % the better loot I have gotten. When doing wrecks, if it goes up by a lot, set it back down and retry until you get the hardest version of the wreck. Totally worth it, better loot.

This is supposed to have to do with positioning when you locate the wreck. There's a large circle where you get the flotsam/shipwreck nearby warnings, and a smaller circle in that where salvage/ropes will trigger the raise. I read that your position in that circle controls the variation you're talking about. Unfortunately I can't find the source for that now, it was some time ago. If I find the link I'll post it here.

Ghost ships have npcs that you fight. After defeating them ou can talk to them and they give ou stuff. Regular wrecks do not have npcs you can talk to.

I strongly suggest you fleet with someone and find the wreck by following the log messages about who's closest to the wreck. Also try these possible coordinates, their pretty common locations for wrecks that are out in the middle of the sea:

there are things that only comes from shipwrecks, most of the time equipments with skill buffs particularly trading/maritime skill like the evasion boots, there's also the possibility of getting storm sails, of which fetch pretty good prices, then there's also the discovery cards from discovery shipwrecks as well as Meiping.

true but most of the items has better counterparts that are obtainable from tb time to time. i dont think any of them can fetch more than 50m except for storm sails. besides, the chances to get them are very low. like me, my 150th to 200th wrecks gave me nothing but trade goods.

In my experience, yes, however I don't remember any details of how many ranks were leeched or if the leecher had the skill at all.

Yes you can Ming Mei. I've done it many times since I don't have any adv skils. As long as your fleet member stays close by and has R 5 Rec (or any other rank or skill needed) it will be like having the skill itself even if you really don't.

You can only leech +2 adv skills for search, reco, and eco research. So if you need r5 reco on your shipwreck and you have a fleet with r5. You need to be at least have r3 reco (with/without boost item) otherwise nothing will happen. Unless your fleet with r5 is also doing the same shipwreck quest then you don't need reco anymore.

other adv skills you can fully leech the skills and the rank (geo, arch, bio, etc) but I'm not sure if you need to have at least r1 of those skills or just don't have them at all.

You're doing the quest together with your fleet:
- You don't need to have any of the adv skills, once your fleet or any member of your fleet discovers it you to will complete the quest automatically.

You're doing the quest and your fleet is not:
- You can only leech +2 (rec, search, eco research) other skills you can leech regardless of the rank (theo, bio, unlock, etc)

Ill add that that 9 star wreck I pulled up was a real bitch. At 35 crew from my ship (BTC) and 32 from my aides ship (ETC) it was only going about 2-3% per pull no matter what position I took, and it would almost always break around the 75% mark. I ended up switching to a Gallon that's modded for 85 crew, tried again, and it did go faster this time - 5-6% per pull and managed to haul it out. Based on that and other experiences, once you start getting 7 star or higher wrecks you really need 100+ crew or a high salvage skill rank to get them up.

best shipwreck ships are actually battleships. try raising a shipwreck using atakebune (CAA if lowbie or LA if battle 61+) and see the difference when compared to trade/adv ships. heres a quick test to prove it.. find a wreck... try to raise it using your regular trade ship like btc... then cancel salvage skill... change to a battle ship with high crew (large atakebune has 330 crew)... see the difference in % raised with more crew.

MCG (Modified Cruise Galleon) or CG is one of the best ships to do shipwrecks. It has a decent speed and number of sailors 100+ and most of all you can put "Haul" skill as an optional ship skill in which NO rope breaks when hauling the SW it to port.

I don't know how many shipwrecks there are exactly, but I do know your come across repeats after doing a lot of them since there are only so many registered shipwrecks out there (there's no limit to the amount of Shipwrecks you can raise so you know).

For getting to the 100 mark, your need over 1000+ SWMPs to get there as later SWMPs will take 25-30 map pieces to complete a full map.

@Junchul - The warning that it's in "nearby waters" means it's in an adjacent zone to the one you're in. Usually you can figure out which zone by looking at the map and comparing features to where you are when you get that message. When you enter the correct zone it will switch to "the shipwreck appears to be in these waters" or something very similar.

@Port Official that's actually incorrect. With SW Hunter you can get 2 or 3 SWMPs at a time when collecting, fishing, or whatever rather then just one. I believe it also lets you pick up more SWMPs when in dungeons as well.

Shipwreck discovery and the items Ivyro suggests that one may find in a particular wreck should not be taken literally. Example, Ivyro suggests that a 3 star wreck in the Black Sea (#17 Armed merchant ship) will give Large storm sail but from my discoveries I have made for that map, it gives a Medium storm sail instead (at least it's a storm sail :D ).

Do shipwrecks give fame or xp when completed?(thinking of starting shipwrecks so I need some basic info)

I'm admittedly an amateur shipwrecker, but I'll answer as best I can... There are shipwrecks which, once cleared, are counted as discoveries and award you experience for acquiring their card and discovering them, plus fame when you report the discovery to an appropriate NPC (Shipwreck discoveries are "Historical Relics"). Otherwise, no experience or fame is awarded that I'm aware of.

However, if you can get Salvage or Haul to rank 2, Oxford opens up two thesis options. The first thesis (1-star building, "100 Years of Shipwrecks") is finished from exploring a single shipwreck; the second thesis ("Sunken Dreams and Gold - Famous Sunken Ships"), however, gains pages from clearing wrecks, AND sailing long distances, and gives 1k adventure experience, as well as 500 adventure fame (assuming you're in an adventure job, of course), plus small amounts of battle and trade exp/fame. It's a great thesis to take if you travel a lot, and I use it whenever I'm not after a new Oxford skill.

It's also relatively easy to get Haul to R2, by fishing up a single shipwreck, then towing it circles with Haul skill active just outside of a port, docking once you've leveled the skill. Even if you end up not going on to do much shipwrecking, if any at all, you may want to consider unlocking the option to run that Oxford thesis just the same.

It breaks down wrecks by difficulty star ratings, shows which ocean regions they appear in, gives an overview of what rewards they might randomly generate (some rewards are undoubtedly different in GAMA, though memorial album items should remain unaffected), and has the various discovery wrecks (with coordinates) in a separate section for convenient reference.

Good find Guilder, and interesting to see what upcoming shipwrecks we'll get for Chapter 3 for West Coast of North America and Arctic Canada. I noticed the leather bag tool that increases inventory space originally dropped in the Russian Arctic shipwrecks, but apparently was removed for us. I haven't done enough SWs up there to notice if it was replaced with anything.

What are the dif between ghost shipwrecks and regular ones?

As I recall:

Ghost wrecks are timed; after a certain period, generally 10-15 minutes, they will fall apart, and anything not collected will be lost. JP wiki warns that if this happens while you're still inside, the wreck will not be counted as part of your overall total cleared shipwrecks.

The wreck will take constant damage as the timer (invisible, naturally) counts down to its imminent demise. Ducats and possibly equipment/items (according to JP wiki) can be lost during this time; high enough levels of Marching skill reduces the risk of this happening.

Friendly NPCs will materialize at random points throughout the wreck. Click on them before they disappear again, and you'll receive ducats and occasionally, special rare items like Headache Meds. You have a very limited window of opportunity to do this, so if there's more than one member to your fleet, I'd suggest splitting up and covering as much of the ship as humanly possible -- unlike shipwreck chests, any member of your fleet can click on the friendly NPCs to receive rewards, IIRC.

JP wiki states that while towing Ghost wrecks, disasters are more likely to occur. I've only ever gotten mine so far close to ports, so I can't comment as to that.

JP wiki also mentioned something about ghostly enemy NPCs causing status disorders at the start of combat, unless a member of your party, or an Aide, is a Priest/Missionary. It also seems to state that failure to vanquish the enemy NPCs will make it impossible to open the treasure chests.

Lastly, Ghost wrecks are found in specific locations. The wiki I keep referring to has a complete listing of all Shipwreck locations based on star difficulty and ocean zone, so you can sometimes predict if your wreck might turn out to be a Ghost version. They're pretty rare, but definitely worth the trouble of salvaging. Bring friends, good gear, and don't linger onboard for too long; you ought to do just fine.

... But if you meant actually tracking it while you're in the right sea zone, that's a little different. After you use Salvage skill, you can check your Shipwreck map and move your mouse icon over it; a small red 'X' shows up to indicate where it might be. I say 'might' because the X likes to move sometimes. Having fleetmates along to help narrow the location down isn't a bad idea, especially when it comes to the actual salvaging.

That's the best advice I can give. Still a pretty amateur SW hunter myself, so sorry if it wasn't all that good. Hope you find the information you need; cheers, and good shipwreck hunting.

Chapter 1.5 of Lost Memories will add new Shipwreck types including a few new discovery Shipwrecks:

While it isn't been added to any database yet (none that I could find anyway), based off of the comments from the Japanese wiki from their player base, here's some examples:

-Southeast Asian pirate ship
-New World Pirate Ship
-Mars discovery ship, based off the Swedish warship that sunk in 1564 during the Northern Seven Years' War in the Baltic
-Nuestra Señora de Atocha based off the Spanish treasure galleon that sunk in 1622 off the coast of the Florida Keys
-Nuestra Señora de Encarnación based off the armed Spanish merchant ship that sunk in 1681 at the mouth of the Chagres River in Panama

There could be more, but thats all I could get out of it. Look forward to this even if its several months away, if not a full year before we'll see this.

Maybe this Japanese list could help?

It mentions a number of 'sea-only' maps with 7* wrecks in them. If you change 'Map' to 'Data' then it becomes a table of wrecks with possible contents as well as locations, but I think the Map version may be more useful to you right now. Cheers.

Awesome thanks Guilder i was actually looking for something just like this.
turns out it was just in the north atlantic seas just northwest from azores lol.

i had sailed all the way around the world starting from cape town thinking it was one of the bottom sea tiles of the map XD wasted a good hour or so.
