you can grind maritime in it npc-wise and it can be made to be kinda fast.
but it is in no way a first choice for pvp.

If you max out the sails on these and give them EA they are reasonably fast ships Calicut to Lisbon in about 55-60 days

I made one and was fairly pleased with the speed/cargo combo it had. Mostly used it to pull up shipwrecks with max crew size. But it's no clipper.

I'm quite happy with mine as a general purpose vessel. As is often the case with adventuring ships, she's a "jack of all trades, master of none"; there are other ships that do different tasks better, but at the levels required, there's no ship that does everything better.

good shipwreck raising ship, decent speed, decent cargo, i still ahve a 4/5 one stowed away somewhere, fond memories of that ship. Long since have I outgrown it, but it was a solid ship.
