For aide captains called in during battle, do they now benefit from their own equipment's +skill (eg, +2 penetration gun equipped on aide do aide get higher penetration rank)?
Gionet told me it works that way before he quit.

Aide only use your skills ranks, they just get bonus atk/def in naval melee if you give them high def/atk equip like 100def boots or a 100atk weapon..
You can see the difference while mocking.

It is NOT cosmetic only! Aides get the skills, att and def from items. Only great success items like 100 def boots dont matter. They will only get the base numbers. Where else do you think aides get their att/def in melee from? If clothes didnt matter thana everyones aides would be the same in battle which also isnt true.

Equipaments given to aide are for appearence only, their status on melee battle are based on their maritime level and their liutenant trait. Well if you doubt it then go ahead and give your 100 atk stuff and forged gear to aide......but dont go saying you were not warned to not do so

ugh.. Aides CAN get more atk and def in naval melee with character EQUIPMENT.. i have checked it, and EVERYONE can check it out with a simple mock and some friend.
If you don't believe me, ok. You can do the test.

Forged gear and great success gear don't work. Only basic equipement adds to your aides stats.

and yea if you give your aide a saw he will get +1 shipbuilding. unfortunate for you your aide cant build a ship and only gives you a +1 boost no mater what his skill is.
