Where is the fleet that drop Maori Feather? I'm trying to sail in oceania waters without the caution skill, but the fleet wont ambush me, only the other fleet that drop Eagle feathers +1 collection ambushing me.. Please help

I think it's a fixed rate of gain? I'm no expert with melee skill gain though. I heard that if you have an aide with seize cargo it gains every time you activate the aide skill

higher plunder skill rank wont give extra loot , just more money

the percentage of item drop is not changeable, rank 1 or 10 you can still loot mode design collection v7 for the same base chance
unless you have Seize Cargo

Fanta, your assertion that plunder rank does not change the base drop chance... can you provide proof or data from some website or wherever you got that?

Almost all the guide websites that I have seen be they Korean, Jap or Chinese ALL say that r10 Plunder is the minimum recommended level for serious rare loot hunters. If what you say is true then all those ppl are blowing hot air out their bums cause with plunder r0 I would have the same chance of getting rare loot as a plunder r15 person, just that I get more ducats.

I'll give you that a r0 can also get rare drops, just that the chance in much much smaller.

No offense but anecdotal evidence provided by what you & yourself 'thinks' it should be doesn't count.

simply win in melee battles, Seize Cargo(the aide skill) may help u alot because every time ur aide uses his skill the game thinks of it as a use of plunder so it will give u some prof in ur plunder, yet this skill has nothing to do with the aide skill in any way.

Well that much is common sense, but it's clear that barcas do not provide plunder XP. So different enemies must provide different amounts of plunder XP. What gives the most?

I don't have any hard evidence because I didn't record the numbers but it certainly seems that the stronger the fleet, the more plunder exp you get. Same as Arms skill. A couple weeks in India and SEA and my Plunder rank is at 9 now. Slow but not so bad.

its suppose to be pretty obvious that higher lvl fleet will give u more exp, i mean after all u cant grind battle on barcas when ur at lv24... its just common sense

the calc for plunder takes into account the NPC level vs your level, but it also calcs against the NPC's storage rank too (NPCs like PCs have skills and appropriate ranks)

It follows that higher level NPCs have higher level storage too, but not always

plunder r1 will do, higher plunder ranks just give more food/water/ducats and the counter NPC storage lvl.And player storage level.

everyone says different things, but thing about it; plunder beats storage; NPC's have storage lvl's too. So ... if u dont beat opponents storage u have really small chance of getting things. But I might be wrong ... :)

Plunder skill is overrated, seriously. Higher plunder ranks only give more money, food & water and stolen cargo also rises a little bit the chance of getting rare items. Having plunder over r10 dont mean you are going to get rare items, it's not gauranteed, actually the only skill that (if it's succesfully activaded) dramaticaly increases rare item chance is seize cargo.

I plunderer fleets (like north sea armed merchan, vikings) over and over with r12 and 14 and I got nothing from these fleets.

natascha is right, North Sea Armed Merchant Fleet drops spear training secrets (but there are 3 kinds, so if you don't plunder the right fleet no book for you^^), Vikings drop ultimate spear training or viking crest (same fleet but 2 kinds here).

works in any land battle instance, dungeons too (but you dont get proficiency in land). You will get more drops/ducats from killed npcs... dont expect a lot of valuables...

You do get exp on land battle, but for that to work you can't have full cargo and inventory. You get proficiency based on cargo/items you steal.

Buried in some of the older comments on this page is a helpful tip. To summarize:

Whenever the Aide skill Seize Cargo triggers during melee battles, it gives you Plunder skill proficiency points. It basically acts as if the battle is over (even though it clearly isn't), and you loot the enemy, getting rewards based on a hidden percentage drop mechanic. If paired with the two Oxford skills Successful Plundering 1 and Successful Plundering 2, then Seize Cargo triggers more often, thus equaling more skill points for your Plunder skill, and thus helping it to level more quickly.

Something I've been wondering about the land battle side of Plundering is, does the level of NPC enemy you're fighting matter as the skill rank grows higher? I'm sure it does, otherwise you could get to R15 just from fighting low level enemies in Europe. It'd be worth testing to be sure, though. Cheers, and great successes in your plundering expeditions.
