Arlen

Any land battle item becomes an item tech when equipped in the land battle items window (equipment > land battle items).

Elroyy
03-27-2012
Wrong, Item Tech (Trade Tech) is different of Land Battle Items equipped.

Item Tech is for: shorten the time of re-use of items, increase the effect of some items and broaden the area of effect of some items.

First trade techs that requires only 1 level of Merchandise is Swift - reduce item re-cast time, Amplify - raise item's effectiveness, Broaden - expand range of item's effectiveness.

no need other skills....only Merchandise knowledge is enough...

Others are required - for example the japanese wiki shows that rapid, the r2 version of swift, requires r3 merchandise knowledge and r4 `operation'. I don't know which skill `operation' is.

How to rank this skill up?

Kicker
03-11-2013
once you finally get a tech, use that tech as much as possible. You click on the tech when it comes up, then click on an item, such as heals or antidotes, that will work up proficiency for this skill. It helps to turn off weapon and trap techs so that only trade techs will come up.

Remember, you didn't ask the best way to fight land battles, you asked how to rank this skill up.

This skill affects item like this: When you are land fighting, you get techs which when used, affect your items range, power, duration. They are used just like weapon techs. Thats it.

they are not nearly as effective without the skill as they are with the skill. A good way to test for yourself would be to put it on your bookshelf and see the difference.

How to Acquire Trade Techs?

Wen zhi

Beat up NPCs in land battles. I got all three R1 trade techs (Swift, Amplify, Broaden) from Syracuse upper dungeon. I only just started, though, and don't know how to get the higher level ones, which undoubtedly require more work.

High Crown Hat is a +2 Merchandise Knowledge headgear item; no gender restrictions. It was only released via a bottle item a ways back, however, and is not very common.

First reported to exist by 1kWords, Gao Qiang Lu gives +1 Merchandise Knowledge and requires 5k fame to equip. The only footwear item in the entire game to give such a boost, it's seemingly found in "Leshan Giant Buddha upper hidden room" - can't confirm if it's in GAMA yet, but it seems like it ought to be.

Of course, the +2 Merchandise Knowledge from Tamsui Boots footwear is vastly superior, but not many of those for sale these days.

How can i efficently rank this skill?

Guilder
12-04-2016
Good question. This skill only gains proficiency points when you use the techs associated with them; a friend uses really cheap items (ointments, etc.) sold in item shops, picks a fight with a low level enemy, and then spams the Merchant skills repeatedly to heal/defend, while the enemy does scratch damage to their HP. I have a possible plan I'd like to test for them someday that might be useful... any other tips, fellow Voyagers?

H.-Gazi
12-05-2016
The only way to grind it is indeed by spamming item-techs. Max. proficiency you gain per battle is 10 (15 now with perma 50% prof.). So after using a few time, it is better to finish the battle or run and start a new one. :-)

This is even harder than trap skill to grind, because trap skill can also be grinded by dismantling traps in dungeon or activating devices.

In chapter 3 the conditions for land battle techs, including this will be soften. So there is a possibility that this becomes much easier to grind.

Most players delete this skill after they obtained all the trade-techs. I don't know the benefit of having an higher rank after having the techs, but will figure out later. :)

Hope this helps!

Kind Regards,

Huseyin-Gazi

I figured out at least one benefit to higher ranks on this skill. While using Ointments (50 HP recovery) with Broaden (L1; expands single item use to persons in target range) and MK at 5+2, I noticed it was actually healing 110 HP. Turns out, for every rank level added, Ointments gave bonus HP back, at least when using Broaden.

So even low level items can theoretically have greater efficacy, at least when used in combination with a Tech skill. I'm guessing deleting the skill, or even storing it, negates that benefit, though I haven't tested that yet.

Speaking of items, I did notice there seems to be a hidden combination method to using items to achieve special hidden effects. Not sure if this applies to MK skill or is even implemented on UWO at present or not, but if you feel like giving it a try, the item tables are listed here, under "Combo":

gvo.gamedb.info/wiki/?Combat

Cheers.

Guilder
02-05-2017
Pardon. I meant 5+2 MK skill made Ointments restore 130 HP, not 110. I'd edit the comment, but... y'know. Can't.

question 1

does this skill do anything else other than for trade tech augmenting ?

question 2

how vital / important are trade tech in land battles ? are they necessary ? or we can survive just fine without them

Ferrolio
03-29-2018
As far as I know, its only function is for the usage of item techs.

They are definitely not vital in land battle. You could get by perfectly fine without ever picking up this skill.

However, if you want to truly master land battle, or are a serial dungeoneer - you will find it helpful in this regard.

Keep in mind you will need higher ranks of Frugality, at least to first learn the higher rank item techs. You can ditch Frugality after that.

Juicebox
03-29-2018
Merchandise knowledge increases the multiplier so that item techs do more damage or last longer heal more etc...

The item techs can be useful if you like to fight unarmed to save dura by doing tons of damage with very cheap easy to find items but imo other than that meh...

The REAL use for this skill is to use it to learn trade techs for your original master tech. This will allow you to do infinite evasion or buff attack/defense or use them to augment other original master techs. Infinite evasion is the creme de la creme of land battle.

Good luck landlubbers lol

i see , btw how do you know npc ship lvl ? in land battle you can see their lvl but not at sea

I am committed to progressing this skill, and the least we can say is that it is going to be long.

Each use of a technique is worth 1 point. The maximum in a single fight is 15 points. Each effective use of a consumable fills the charging sword on top of the screen(no progression if a heal is applied while the life bar is full), it takes 13 to get to rank 2.

The main pitfall is the number of consumables, only 4. Once used, you have to wait for them to recharge to continue.

For some efficiency, I place myself between 2 npc and I switch from one to the other using the lightest consumables once per fight then retreat.

I use this ones without any equipment on.
adhesive-oil
ointments
taheboo juice
tonic

note: I noticed a smaller gauge in combat than indicated in the description of the consumable. For example, adhesive oil is 30 instead of 40, tonic is 37 instead of 50.
As I fight without equipment, I guess it's an effect of the skill. I am rank 7.
