small hint for grinding tradeskills: never buy more than your current traderank x20 tradegoods. anything beyond that is wasted skill-exp.

base rank. Boosters don't count for this excercise. if you are r1(+4) in wares buy a maximum of 20 at a time until r2(+4), then buy 40 max, etc.

huhwha? ya it multiplies by 2, but 20 items per base rank is still in effect. Of course 2x gets you more prof per buy, but it still caps at the same point.

double confirmed, whatever "extra skill prof" is in effect allows for that much more skill gain.
i.e. 2x = Max 40 per buy.
try it for yourself, believe !! lol

Best place to grind Metal trading is port hopping between Santiago and Jamaica. Both sell Gold Dust and are very close to each other.

How much every rank adds epends the tradegood and port, Gold at Sassari is 1 more per rank, gold at American ports can be 3-5 pieces per rank. For silver it adds more, you can eventually buy near 100 silver and 60 gold with max rank in america, but maybe 60 silver at Lubeck and a little less at Genoa

Not really sure where on this site this fits in, but the cap for purchases when leveling purchase skills has been removed. Its no longer rank x 20. Here were my experiences when i was working my spice trade in palma:

Purchase 1: used my base rank 10, bought 200 spice got 30 prof with the 1.5 skill prof in effect

Purchase 2: used a modified rank 10 + 3, and bought 261 spices, got 39 prof, again 1.5 was active

Purchase 3: used the same modified rank 10 + 3, bought 598 spice with the 1.5 active, got 89 prof.

purchase 4: used all my gear and plusses, managed to get r 10 + 9, bought 820 spice, earned 123 prof, and it was during the same 1.5 skill prof event that followed Gran atlas

Not sure when the change hit, could have been with the Gran Atlas, but it seems there is no longer a limit for purchases when you are after prof.

the skill cap prof was remove around the addition of the small update after 2nd age chapter 4..those 2 patches..
