if i am not wrong, this skill also allows you to convert trade goods to food, water, timber and ammunition at a greater rate.

I can confirm this, I usually sail with a friend, and he can convert things like beer into 4 water, while I can only convert it into 3 water

waste of skill slot

Yes, Emma.

i had level 3 provision, just gave it up. turns out it only saved me 7 ducat per food. i just hope its not needed for anything high level cuz it took me to level 64 (all combined) to get it to level 3.

Cheaper water foor ammunitons timber from port
Cheaper tavern food
Cheaper sailors
Higher food/water convert rate at ship cargo
But very slow to level up

To lvl quickly just repeatedly fill up and discard cheap water at the docks. I went from 6 to 10 in under an hour during a double skill day. 10 is overkill. Whatever gets beer = 5 water is all you need (about r5 or r6)

this is a requirement for some of the higher level item techs, for what it's worth.

Item tech no, Trap techs...

To item techs only need of Merchandise and Frugality.

Hans

Yes that was my bad. Got some bad information and spread it without verifying first. It is frugality and merchandise knowledge only required for item techs.

Looks like it also gains exp from the act of converting. I converted about 50 blue mackerels to food, and got a notice it went over 400 in proficiency.

Is this a pre-requisite for any other skills?

Steward

So this skill is not required to obtain any land battle techs?

Francine
08-22-2013
Nope. you need Trap and swordmaster to acquire land battle techs and of course swordplay, sniping or throwing.

Xiao Wei

You might be looking for Frugality if you mean Trade techs which are used in Land battle, along with Merchandise knowledge

francine stop talking if you dont know. This is a req to get one line of the trap techs (barrel r3/r4).

A certain rank in Provisions is needed for a couple of trap techs but that's it. It's not needed for any of the battle and trade techs. That being said I did find Provisions quite helpful early on in the game when money was tight and I had very few or no other skills to help. I eventually dropped the skill as I had better means to acquire more money and better skills in fishing, oxford, so forth to help.

For those grinding this, please note that having an item which have a + 1/2 to provisions equipped does not increase the amount of skill proficiency obtained when buying supplies or converting trade goods.

It does however have the effect of an increased provisions rank, as like all bonus items.

This skill also makes ordering food and drinks (both individually and course meals) at the tavern/rest area cheaper as well. The difference isn't earth shattering, but helps quite a bit if your really tight on money.

P.S. An excellent way to grind this is to do it at ganador base by taking a mission, fleeting with someone, and just staying at the docks buying and dumping food and water since it costs you NOTHING to stock supplies there.

So far this skill can be pretty useful, just repeating the function of it:
1) Gives 4 % discount on provision per rank of it, so at rank 20 you've up to 80 % discount.
2) Increases the amount of supply convertation from trade goods. Like Tuna up to 28 food per use instead less of it.
3) Cheaper menu on tavern + course meal.
4) Essential requirement to learn "Range Barrel Trap" and "Wide Barrel Trap"

That is some excellent information on the Provisions skill. Thanks for sharing it.

A quick guide to those who wish to grind this skill efficiently:

1. Go to the docks of any city in the world (even supply ports) and select Ganador Transport.
2. Speak to Spy and click Ganador Mission Info.
3. Click Plan Mission. Select a green-name Ganador (or special guest Ganador with light pink/red name such as alveero, etc.) which costs 0 Patriot Awards.
4. Click OK, Yes to Plan Mission, then click Spy to select Ganador Mission Info again.
5. Click Details, Begin, Yes.
6. Go to docks from port official, switch to a ship with lots of cargo space, discard all food/water/timber/munitions and then open Provisions menu. Click 'Load water and food evenly' button, and accept the maximum amount of food/water.
7. Close Provisions menu, dump everything, and reload water and food evenly until you have gained as much skill proficiency as you like (for free). When you're finished, just click on End Ganador Battle and click Ganador Transport to return to the regular world.

Keep in mind Ganador battles eventually time out even if they do not begin, but it's easy to restart one for free (if needed). I hope this helps. Cheers, great online voyaging to you.
