It acts exactly the same way as the other nations military panelings just a different color. So now you can have a ship with gold paneling. There is Holy Roman Imperial Guard Paneling which also gives 10 to 30 Durability and 0 to 2 Turn Speed but I don't think that can be acquired just yet.

Does this look exactly like spanish panel? I hear it also makes the deck and masts yellow as well. Imo this item still sucks. A dismanlte is still needed after installin this because a different FS part would mod in better. I would consider buying only for eye appeal if i was shiny golden like mjolnir. This looks lkke more junk.

this is the panel i got from Treasure Box of Courage, it has no +'s as i can see from the item description, looks shiny compared to the spanish panel though.
