You add this sail to any heavy ship. You add it through the special shipbuilding option at the shipyard master. However you'll need Special Shipbuilding Improvement Permits to do this. You have to buy those from the NC shop.

Would it replace my studding sails?

For example trading sambuk has 3 studding sails. If I add this are there only 2 studding sail slots left?

If so does it degrade over time or is it a permanent part of the ship?

These sails are added through special shipbuilding to your ship. They improve the sail stats of the ship. They cannon be put into your three sail slots in your sambuk.

Does the 40 to 50 depend on the shipbuilders skill, is it random or based somehow on ship stats?

Oh, and another question, how many times can this be used per ship? Just once? Does it take up any slot or anything once used? Like if I use a large latin sail I can't make any more improvements?

Once per Improvement. if your ship is 0/5 you can use this 5 times.. etc

and u can add 1 fs part per improvement? because when fs building a ship, u can add 2 fs part besides main sail and gunports...

You can add one "sail" part, one "gunport" part and two "body" parts to a ship. This obviously is a sail part so you can use only one of these per improvement.

Occasionally available at San Francisco's Nugget Exchange for 8000 points. There are worse things to spend nugget points on, I suppose.
