Sometimes people just have to understand what is clearly written. It says Rank 8. That rank 8 applies to Search, Appraisal and Unlock. good luck with map.

To be fair, the translations aren't always correct, or entirely clear. I still remember that one bio map in EA that said it needed Unlock... anyway. A simple rule: search/recog/eco. research and unlock can be two levels below the number listed for your treasure/discovery map and still work, but the actual skill (appraisal in this case) must match the required skill level.

the discover skill(appraisal/biology/theology/geography/arch/art) must meet the requirement rank or more...no less...if this map require rank 8....make it rank 8(can use boost item)...

while finding skill(search/recog/eco.research/unlock) is what guilder said..

I could not appraise the find with Appraisal at 5(+1). Once I added equipment that raised it to 5(+3) I was able to appraise it. Thus the map should read Search, Appraisal 8, Unlock 8.

Yes, the 8 counts for all of those 3 skills. You read it as search r8, appraisal r8 and unlock r8, and then you get the 'discount' on search and unlock :)
I think it is currently clear enough.
