a little addition. you also need french for the jobquest (it's not noted in the requirements, but you need to talk to some french guy and body language doesnt cut it)

Holfina

Yep, portuguese + latin for 1st guy,
french + hebrew for 2nd guy and
italian + ancient egyptian for 3rd guy.
Try use translation note, fleet or aide language if miss some language for you.

With the advent of Oxford i think this job may just gain a lot of popularity. Very easy to grind credits with linguistics skill r2.
KiKi LaLa07-03-2012
I'm doing this, R1 Linguistic also work.. I bought Papers from London and Western Books from Amsterdam, then I'm going to 'Erasmus' for production 'Make Germanic translation notes' need 1 Paper and 1 Western Book, then report the research to scholar in amsterdam.. Erasmus and Scholar was really near in Amsterdam :)

really, why would you grind this recipe at oxford you would need exceptional sundries trading rank to be worthwhile and the credits gained are pretty low 25 i believe and the r1 recipe you mention has always been available with Erasmus-takes about 4-5mins each time
and the fact you gotta travel back n fore London-Amsterdam makes grind credits longer than doing simple chat up the barmaid in tavern n give presents grind- takes less than 2min each time

and why would ya want this you cant sell the stuff its just a money pit

I can tell you from experience that the alchemy/linguistics course is worth doing, takes less than a minute to get 100 credits.

Natascha

meh i can tell you doing General Check can earn you 800 in 3mins

Nicola

less than a min on the linguistic mission stated i dont think so...
take quest, run to port square, wait fr screen load, wait for screen load, sail to Amsterdam, wait for screen load, run to Erasmus, make stuff, run to port square(not sure), wait fr screen load, wait for screen load, sail to London, wait for screen load, run to scholar and report longer than a minute i assure you and this is 25 credits per run.
might be able to make it in 1 minute after graduated and you do the quest from Amsterdam Scholar but thats not what the guy said and its still only 25 credits per run

Natascha

also you need to have paper so unless your England Nation you need to prep for this mission and paper is otherwise from Beirut- looking longer and longer now huh
i mean the gifts for Tavern Maid mission you can buy in London item shop no prep, no sailing, virtually no screen loads...

you need to take a closer look at what linguistics/alchemy is able to grind and how it advances. chickes-to-eggs-to-chickens-to-eggs infinitum.
You don't have to grind alchemy or linguistics, you just need r2 alchemy or linguistics to be able to access the course.
It does take less than a minute, and until the r4 college opens up (which shouldn't be too much longer) you can't even get to General Check can you?

Even that, you can make paper from hemp, with a handicraft book, investing 300k at Candia

You need 30k adventure fame to take it?

it goes easier for me, i got the book ( i dont need erasmus) and also the book to make foreign books from paper.. so i all i gotta do is buy paper from london and stop infront of the scholar, finish all in 1 min and report.
sundries skill is really worthless since the only thing u need from it is either buy foreign books (which can be obtainable from paper, specially with high wares trading) or to grind it only for some furniture making (which is silly)
and FYI u wont need to buy sundries for linguistics anymore, u only need it for r1 and r2, the rest is wares and dyes.
my 50 cents

why i cant get the prequest???? i got 40k adv fame and all languages with translation notes... :S wasted 40 qmps now

They're talking about special production tech. 1 in the 2 star college (advanced).
you get 5 points for using an alchemy or linguistic recipe, but you get 15 points for getting a great success in ANY basic production (storage, cooking, etc)
works extremely well if you can do the chicken-to-egg-to-chicken trick.
I used this back when oxford first came out to grind out my 100 theses and then to help unlock the 4-star college.
General check when combined with grinding evasion out in the caribbean is a lot faster, but you better have a boat with good dura, this is an entirely seperate discussion anyway.
