These are sold for 25,000 ducats in Rome's item shop, I believe.

You equip them on you like any land battle item, and when used in battle in a dungeon (doesn't work outside dungeons), it immediately takes you out of that dungeon and back at the entrance. Since you can simply get yourself killed if you need to get out of a dungeon and your only lose a small amount of fame and ducats for doing so, it doesn't make Escape ropes all that useful.
