I've always assumed that it either prevents crew loss from cannon fire and storms, or boosts the captains Rescue skill, but I haven't been able to find any information to confirm it.

A deckhand told me that "Capture Sailors" affects and improves your melee battle ability to some degree. They weren't more specific on how that worked, but it seems as good an explanation as any.

it affects the attack or defense (cant remember which value), in melee rounds, like the sterncastles effects

i believe when u win a deck battle , u have a chance to capture the sailors from enemy's ship to your ship , make up the lost ones , sailors capture will increase the sailors u get , thats all

i believe butterflies are the products of unicorn farts, that doesn't make it so. deck battle has nothing to do with capture sailors

when something happens that causes sailors to go overboard, figureheads help "capture sailors" so that you don't lose as many.
