man, isn't everything "overpriced" nowadays
I needed this the other day, looked in sevile+lisbon+amsterdam company shops. nothing
finally found 1 at london comp shop for 10mil, so i bought it.
was it overpriced? idk, it was the only price LOL

just measure it in dungeon-time. will going to search for one take longer than 2-3 dungeonruns? yes? most probably, so 10m are fair

Nina

thats true, i have a few big NC buyers who complain about dungeons and the money players can earn, however these NC buyers sell ships and NC items 24/7, on top of that they sell at a higher price than if dungeons didnt exist, so theyre still gaining more than they would if inflation didnt occur. these NC buyers who sell ships etc also a cause of inflation themselves selling for example a MAV at 3bil, when 1 year ago they were 500mil, yet they complain its dungeons causing inflation. its all wrong, supply and demand is the key here, dungeons have increased bank accounts, meaning more players WTB. NC ship sellers increase their prices due to more players wanting to buy with deep pockets, and it doesnt just stop at NC ships. the demand from the new players especially from steam are wanting to buy items such as this shipwright's hammer, but many players prefer to go dungeon to earn profit rather than search for this hammer just to sell. you cant cry at inflation on purely dungeons and ESBTs when anything you sell will gain you much more ducats than a year ago. who is it being damaged by inflation im curious to know because players still arent happy about inflated prices, however they have the means to gain alot of ducats no matter what your lvls or skills are. players who dont buy NC can easily acquire enough ducats to purchase NC ships even with prices high. and players who do buy NC gain alot of ducats from the players looking to buy NC ships with deep pockets, and like i said, this is not just restricted to NC ships, its pretty much everything in game. so who's the hypocrites complaining i wonder? everyone in this game has the means to make huge ammounts of ducats no matter what your character is like. and im not talking reselling and ripping players off.

See, people have a great deal of cognitive dissonance about this whole inflation deal. Yes, things cost more ducats, but ducats are easier to get (by selling just about anything), so all it really means is ducats have less *buying power* than they did. They all want to cash in on the extra ducats when selling stuff, but cry about spending them, expecting obsolete prices.

It doesn't cost that much to get at least +6, so yeah, r2 base would be sufficient with the right gear. If you want to go all out, you can get about +11 with oxford, aide, job, and gear.

Sylvia
06-10-2013
Correction, you can actually get +13 if you go all out, which means only r7 base is needed to hit r20. Granted, it's a bit more spendy to do that... but it's very possible to get a good search rank without a huge investment.

I've said this before and had the equivalent of rotton vegetables thrown at me, but here goes again:

One could argue that dungeons have actually made things cheaper instead of more expensive. Here's why: NPC prices have not changed. Colony developments cost the same, upgrading your house costs the same. 1 year ago MAV's were 300-500M true, but my goodness how long did it take to make that?

In terms of time spent to get ducats, things are much cheaper now than they used to be.

Now, it can go too far, and i'm not sure that it hasn't started to, but I will agree with the poster above that people by and large really don't understand the mechanics driving the in-game economy, fewer still understand the difference between real world economics and game economics and why real-world solutions won't work in-game and vice-versa.

I blame Obama, greedy bankers and health care for this problem

game economy probably was designed as trader making most the money, but dumping in investment and supporting the maritimers. But there were a lot of disbalances of that "model"... multis, NC only stuff, dungeons. Also, supply and demand isnt exactly as real economy, because supply of IN game stuff is unlimited -same as ducats, there are no limit to total ducats in game-, but NC comes from gambling, so is hard to say if the supply of NC stuff is limited or technically infinite (NC items an be always in any TBox). Also...game dont have efficicent ways to encourage players to expend money back to the game, instead of transfering it to other players. Investment, now, is useful for court ranks, but port control isnt needed, when most money comes from dungeons (sailing to look for best prices of any valuable dungeon loot isnt efficient) and some people that only trade certain goods (or just bazaar the goods)... only way to balance things is in the hands of game managers, but seeing the "fix" of all problems (NC 1:1 items), dont expect any change...

Search r7+3 with aide set at lookout (trait 48), at the northern upturned boulder in campagna, gave me nothing in 20 min (tons of rocks, a bit of grass, and 3 hazelnuts).

Then I got to the southwest upturned boulder (the one nearest from entrance) and got one god of the seas figurehead and one hammer within 5 min.

Maybe a coincidence, but I would advise going to the southwest one.

Just a reminder: the Knight's Stiletto weapon is +1 Casting, too.

Pros: KS has 65 durability as opposed to the Shipwright's hammer which only has 5. The hammer is needed for certain recipes, but the KS is not.
Cons: The KS requires both an Adept of Ages title, and 500 Casting contribution to Florence per production (see its page for full details).

It isn't exactly easy to make KS weapons, but I think they represent a better option for long-term casters than the hammer.

I have been searching R13 for 2 hours at upturned boulder in ne and upturned boulder in sw in Campagna. All I got is rocks and grass. So, Idk... I would believe it if there were pics of getting the hammer in these places.

Try switching to the Japanese version of this page, then copy and search the name of this item and go to "Images" for your selected search engine (I typically use Google). You should find some screenshot references of where to hunt, at least for this particular item.

The hammer is definitely there by the upturned boulder in the north (northeast of the entrance). If you are ONLY getting grass and rock and NO (useless) inventory items such as sandals, throwing knives, telescope etc, then it makes me wonder if you are standing a pixel or two away from the landmark! Use the W key on your keyboard to make sure your toon is touching the upturned boulder, his head literally bumping on it! Sometimes this can make the difference. Generally I estimate 30min to 1hr of searching to find a hammer - it can be 20mins if lucky, 70mins if unlucky. Another way to estimate is 1 hammer per 1k points of vigour. More than 1 if lucky, more vigour needed for 1 if unlucky.

Personally I always get my hammers at the ruins instead of the boulder. My general rule of thumb is that if I'm not searching up any items at the location I'm at I will move on and try another one.

I would like to double on what Egw said. The search area around the "NorthEast" upturned boulder seems to be very strangely positioned. Forty minutes of searching produced nothing but rocks and grass. After re-positioning to the other side of the boulder I started finding items (i.e. baselard, dull longsword) and a hammer after 20 minutes.

Search was r5+2 during this.

Part of the success you have when using Search skill to find things like Bamboo Brooms, Shipwright's Saws and Shipwright's Hammers in outskirt areas/Landing Points depends of course upon your toon's Search skill rank, but there are other factors involved. One of these is your toons relative position to the landmark you're Searching near. Be as close as possible, try to stand opposite any outcroppings, and try to be facing a cardinal compass point. There's a spot I've used in Byblos where I can get 8-10 Shipwright's Saws in under 1 hour, and usually get at least one that's 7/5 dura. Mind you, that's with r16(+4) Search. Another factor is was the spot you're Seaching recently farmed.

Search 7 on one toon and 11 on another. After about 15 minutes of nothing, started getting SW hammers while at the East compass point of the NE upturn boulder. Got 5 in about 40 minutes

Have some friends who were looking for these. Could not find any at R6 search after several hours. They got +1 items and are now finding these. R7 seems required to find.
