it plainly says syracuse church middle floor, does it matter if it's npc drop or chest?

net exactly sure, i know from upper lvs:
catatombs book was npc drop
catatombs amulet was obtained from chest

dont know about catatomb's sword

I got the journal of burial goods at the end of exploring (with the ESBT). It might be the same for this sword.

And Sophia : yes it does matter. If it's not in the chest and all you care about is finding it, you can just rush through the floors without opening the chests and still get NPC / end dungeon drops.

The sword should be the NPC Traitor's drop since he uses a Short Sword, but I have yet to be able to confirm this. I'll keep trying and see whether or not it's true.

You're overthinking it. It's from chests, just not always common.

It says a "sword placed in a hole in the catacombs" maybe use Search after clearing each floor?
