is there a general consensus for fastest non NC ship?

No such thing as fastest ship. It all depends on route and winds. But I know what you trying to ask. Generally for non nc, I would say a good fast ship to have for sailing inter-continentally is the Large Clipper. The level 64 adventure ship.

For the guy who made the question: A comparison with the Btc is not the case; it is a trader ship, not adventurer ship: its always fitted with high cargo and due to its low wave, the speed will be penalized because the players sail it filled with goods, it also has less sails than the large clipper. In this case it will be both be slowed and with lower acceleration due to the high cargo. Thats not the case of the large clipper, which should be fitted with low cargo and waves as high as possible. Fitted with 26/30 sails, the Large clipper will have around 40 more total sails over the cruising tea clipper and the total cargo difference between both will be negligible. I gave you facts, you gave only one adjective, that being that the large clipper is "stupid". The fact is: cruising tea clipper has slightly less sails than the large clipper, so it has potentially less maximum speed. The difference is small but its there.

And you're ignoring the effects of an extra modification on turn and wave numbers. To build a max speed LC you're forced to use two of the 4 slots for EA and Wind-resistant mast to get 110/110 sails. Leaving you 2 modifications for wave/turn boosts. A 5/5 CTC can use 3 large gaff + 2 large square + antifoul paint + large mast to get 110/110 sails, leaving 8 slots for performance boosts. It is quite easy to push a CTC to 20 turn/20 wave without Dsails, which is impossible to do on the LC while maintaining max sails. Also the 3 studding sails vs. 5 sails will make the CTC accelerate faster.

That small extra acceleration wont matter in inter-continental travels. Also 20 turn is a waste. The extra sails will be more efficient.

This is exactly opposite to how the game works. 3 masted ships accel faster than 4 and 5 masted ships, all else being equal.

hull shape / total cargo affects speed too, and Tea Clipper have 5 improvements while BTC 4, so is possible to add more WR. Also, Tea clippers total sails are slighty lower in V than large clippers. But, actually, BTC is a fine ship, Tea Clipper small extra speed dont make it overally better than BTC considering its cargo.

The answer may not be clear, but CTC is faster than Large Clipper by a slight margin, that said, you can't compare ships based on their stats, the ships ingame is what matters. Furthermore, don't try to be a dick and insult someone shirin when your statement was debunked.

By pure sail power comparison, a trading clipper should be faster than a royal frigate (4 mast vs 3, also). But... isnt true, a RF is slighty faster even with official hull than TC. And that aplies to a LOT of ships... in fact, is better to "feel" diferent ships before deciding for one. I prefer a lot my CTC over Large Clipper and Longs schooners, but others will prefer 5-6 masted ships over my 3 masted clipper. There are a lot of factors to define how will be the ships in differents situations, and not just the "visible" stats
